Location: Blue Lotus
“Finally, I got the chance to try out Blue Lotus. Previously, whenever I’m in my office, I always ponder where that delicious lingering fragrant is from. The problem is, there are a few eateries below my office… Now you guys are in luck because I solved the mystery. Must try includes the sirloin beef stone rice and the off-menu pork belly. Even tea was served in a nice teapot, with pu er my favorite tea. Dining there per person is not cheap but you are also guaranteed good service and most importantly food. Set lunches go for about $22-36++ per pax and come with dessert. Must try!”
Location: KARA Cake & Dessert Bar
“Finally got around to trying Kara Cafe. Ordering service was slow but servers have a good attitude. The mac and cheese is on the salty side. I prefer mac and cheese to be on the sweeter side. Loved the texture of the chewy mochi waffles, it’s so good. I definitely will be back. The only issue I had was with their soft serve being quite tasteless. Coffee is strong and smooth. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience.”
Location: Rong Liang Restaurant
“Our Orders: Roasted Pork & Char Siew, Salted Vegetables Duck Soup, Duck Meat, and Roasted Duck. We got a guest today and that’s why we are here for the good food. Best roasted meat choices in the Clementi area. Apart from their popular roasted meat, they do offer a few zi char dishes as well as assorted soups. You can pair those meat with rice or their noodles.”
Location: Pasta Supremo
“Homemade fresh pasta with a touch of Asian flavors. The colors from the pasta come from ingredients such as blue pea flower, beetroot, activated charcoal, etc. What I had was their ‘Chicken Rice’ pasta cooked with chicken broth and accompanied with chicken rice condiments such as their chili, minced ginger, and slices of cucumber. Not forgetting the slices of thick-cut Hainanese chicken. It’s not the exact replicate of chicken rice if that’s what you’re looking for but it’s a good rendition at a much milder flavor.”
Location: The Original Boat Noodle
“Today I visited The Original Boat Noodle in Bugis Junction. I ordered all 4 of their soup broths and I loved their tom yum and sweet kway chap broths! The other two broths taste very thick and full of spices but also quite flavorful. They have 2 types of noodles; springy noodles and rice noodles and I preferred rice noodles. Chewier than springy noodles! 1 bowl is $1.50 I also ordered the hot steamy sangkaya which is thai coconut custard dip with soft buns. My friend and I were amazed by their fantastic, delicious dip! Almost every table will order this dish! It is very very good! I also ordered their fried chicken wings, however, I think it’s like normal har jeong gai chicken wing. So go visit that place for their boat noodle and the steamy sangkaya!”
Location: Kok Sen Restaurant
“Finally tried the famous zi char place, Kok Sen. Known for its Big Prawn Hor Fun and its Claypot Yong Tau Foo, these two dishes did not disappoint. We ordered small portions for both dishes which was just nice for two! There were around 6 prawns and they were all big, fresh and sweet. Hor fun was stir-fried with chili which makes it damn shiok too. As for the Claypot Yong Tau Foo, for the small portion, there were 3 bean curd, 4 capsicums, and 3 eggplants. All were filled with handmade fish paste. An interesting dish that can’t be found anywhere else. I don’t fancy bean curd and capsicums but I finished every single bit of it.”
Location: Hi Joyful
“Got the seafood platter for 5-6 pax. I cannot stand the lamb taste which the mala did have a bit of the lamb taste which ruined my whole appetite. Should have tried other soup base. The lobster was fresh but the other seafood was meh. Had no air-con as they said the air-con happen to spoil that day. All of us were sweating. Although we moved seats, the air-con was not very strong either.”
Location: Burger & Lobster (Raffles Hotel Arcade)
“So I finally got to try Burger & Lobster and did not even queue for it! We did not go to Jewel but went to their outlet in Raffles Hotel Arcade. Awesome food and service are just as great. So I had half a dozen oysters for starters and devoured the Uni, Lobster & Caviar roll – just amazing! My husband had the 1.5lb grilled lobster served with fries and salad. My little boy had the Mayfair burger with just cheese. The sweet potato fries were awesome too (not pictured). We left with happy hearts and tummies!”
Location: Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle
“As a former regular patron since its early days at North Bridge, to Rasa Sentosa at Marina Square and now Crawford Lane, I must confess the quality of the noodles and the broth is not how it used to be. For those who have only begun trying the noodles at their current venue, there’s no way for you to know the difference (between then & now) except for those who have tried at all three locations past and present. The noodles used now are a tad soggier and less chewy. The broth is now plainer and less flavorful. The skin of the dumpling is now slightly thicker than before. Overall, the vinegar and chili still make the dish good. However, it can be better and hopefully in par with the flavor from the past.”
Location: Bacha Coffee
“Checked this place out for an afternoon high tea. Lots of coffee variety to choose from. It’s a heaven for a coffee lover. I always like Sumatra coffee hence trying that out and it doesn’t disappoint me. Go for the pastries like the chocolate coffee croissants. Buttery and not overwhelmingly sweet. Goes super well with the coffee I chose. The place is not superbly quiet but good enough for a good chat with buddies.”
